The 14 men of Gwent travelled to Bristol with hopes of winning their last game before Christmas. Plus, it was Wales vs England (enough said!)
The game started off brightly and Gwent were always on the front foot. It took about 15 mins of knocking on the door before our first goal came. Shortly after our second followed from a short corner. 2-0 at half time.
Gwent took a knee and listened to some inspiring words in the half time talk. It was all Gwent from the start of the second half. Some cracking defending and bossing through the midfield allowed Gwent to score again off another short corner. It was all one way traffic and South Gloucester couldn't handle the pressure. In the blink of an eye the ball came from defence down the line into the D and another goal. At 4-0 Gwent was cruising. There was 15 mins left in the game, but the drama wasn't over. There was a a red card shown to Gwent and South Gloucester goalkeeper. It took the sting out of the game. It's never good to lose a player and a goalkeeper. Gwent seemed to drop down a couple of gears, and seemed quite content to seeing the game out. Gwent scored again but the atmosphere had changed since the sending off, and couldnt really get back to the frame of mind that it was still a league game. South Gloucester did score 2 goals at the end but would have definitely been a different story if it was still 11 vs 11.
Hopefully Gwent can continue on winning ways in 2022.
