Gwent Ladies played in the national indoor finals in Merthyr on Saturday 28 January 2017 and reached the semi final. The indoor league campaign saw the team finish in 4th position with 4 wins and 2 defeats. This meant that they were drawn against Dowlais and Ardudwy from North Wales.
The first match finished in a 5-1 defeat to Dowlais with Rosie Davey getting the only goal for Gwent. The team responded well to the defeat and went on to beat Ardudwy 3-0 with 2 goals from Chloe Smith and another from Rosie Davey. This set up a semi-final match against rivals Whitchurch.
The semi final was closely contested with Gwent having the better of the possession and chances. Unfortunately, Whitchurch scored 2 breakaway goals and reached the final with a 2-0 victory.
It was a great achievement to reach the semi final in only the team's second indoor season and they celebrated with a huge Chinese takeaway!
Congratulations to Whitchurch who beat Dowlais in the final and who will represent Wales in Europe next season.
